The saxophone is a single-reed woodwind instrument. It was invented in Paris, France in 1846. It consists of a brass tube, 24 keys, and a mouthpiece like that of a clarinet.

Saxophones are especially lauded for their contributions to jazz music. They may be used in orchestras or in small bands, accompanied by pianos, trumpets, violins, and guitars.

1. Begin by drawing the bell of the saxophone. First, draw an oval, with a "C" shaped line inside it. This is the opening of the bell. Then, draw a long curved line to outline the bottom of the instrument, called the bow.

2. Use curved lines to outline the "J" shaped body of the saxophone. Connect the lines at the top. Then, extend a curved line and double it back upon itself to outline a curved shape. This represents the neck of the instrument.

3. Extend a curved line from the neck and double it back upon itself to form the mouthpiece. Draw a small triangle at the tip. Then, draw a curved line across the top of the instrument body. Enclose a flattened oval shape, erasing as necessary. Draw a curved line across one end to give it the three-dimensional shape of a cylinder. The is the neck screw, which holds the instrument together.
